Thank you, members, for keeping BC running through extreme weather conditions

To: MoveUP Members in BC

When our communities face challenges, MoveUP members are there.

On behalf of our staff and Executive Board at MoveUP, we want to share our deepest gratitude to our members for your hard work and dedication to serving people across British Columbia every day, and especially over these last few days and weeks as our communities have been hit with extreme weather events, such as high winds and storms.

With climate change comes the impacts of extreme weather events like the ‘bomb cyclone’ that slammed the coastal regions yesterday causing flooding, power outages, damage to property and, in the worst scenarios, injuries or fatalities. We know there are more extreme weather events in the future and we also know that our members will be there to support BC when they hit.

We are so proud of the way our members always step up through challenging times, even as they worry about their own families and friends, providing critical services to the people in BC.

Whether you work at FortisBC or FortisBC Customer Service Centres, BC Hydro, BCAA or ICBC, are a transit worker, at a union office supporting other workers, at one of the car rentals out in the wet and cold — from IT workers to call centres, facilities staff to dispatchers and so many more, thank you all for your amazing work in keeping BC going through these challenging conditions.

In solidarity,

Annette Toth, President
Brenda Chu, Secretary-Treasurer
Rysa Kronebusch, Vice-President, Utilities
Dimitri Ossinsky, Vice-President, ICBC
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President, Combined Units
