Statutory Holiday Pay for Regular Part-time and Temporary Employees
November 18, 2021
To: All MoveUP members at FBC-CSC
As you may recall, September 30, 2021, was declared a statutory holiday for federally regulated employees, and as a result of discussions with the Company, they agreed to observe the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation as a statutory holiday as seen in Article 13 of the collective agreement.
One outstanding question had remained, and that was how would this extra statutory holiday affect the in lieu payment for regular part-time and temporary employees. You will see this when looking at the language in the collective agreement, specifically Article 13.03:
13.03 Statutory Holiday Pay for Regular Part-time and Temporary Employees
Paid Holiday pay for regular part-time employees and temporary employees shall be paid bi-weekly as a percentage of vacationable earnings. The percentage paid shall be 4.8% based on 12 paid holidays.
We have received confirmation today, that the Company will be increasing the percentage from 4.8% to 5.2%. It is our understanding that the Company will be providing the retroactivity for this increase on the next pay cycle for all those affected employees.
We hope that this information has been helpful and if you have any questions, please reach out to a job steward.
In solidarity,
Cindy A. Lee, Union Representative
