Richmond Taxi Contracting Out Grievance Update

November 22, 2022

To: MoveUP Members at Richmond Taxi

We are writing you today to provide an update on the status of the contracting out grievance we filed against Richmond Taxi on October 31, 2022.

We met with your employer and their legal counsel on November 4th, 2022 for a stage 3 grievance meeting. Unfortunately, little progress was made. Your employer was due to provide a formal written response to the grievance by November 18th, 2022, however no response was received.

As a result, on November 21st, 2022 your union filed with the BC Labour Relations Board for expedited arbitration. The labour board will appoint a settlement officer to work with the parties to attempt to reach an agreement. If an agreement is not reached, an arbitrator will be appointed to hear the case. We have retained legal counsel to represent us in this matter.

By filing with the labour board, the union is able to move this case forward at a quicker pace than would normally be achieved by the regular grievance process. We are mindful that this matter is of great concern to members, and to your union, and requires an expeditious resolution. We will be maintaining our position that the employer has violated the collective agreement and will be seeking a cease and desist of contracting out.

We will continue to keep you updated, but in the meantime if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to  us at achen@moveuptogether.ca or scolliss@moveuptogether.ca.

In solidarity,

Anny Chen, Union Representative
Sara Colliss, Union Representative
Christy Slusarenko, Vice President, Combined Units
