Powertech – Overtime
February 8, 2021
To: All MoveUP members at Powertech
It has come to your union’s attention that members are being directed by managers not to claim overtime as per the collective agreement. Instead, members are being directed to keep a record of the time which could then be taken later with managements agreement. When members take this overtime as time off in the future, they are being directed by managers to not code it as time off but instead, to code it as time worked.
If you are directed by your manager to code time off falsely by coding it as time worked, when in fact you are on a day off, members need to advise their manager that it is a violation of the collective agreement and they cannot follow their direction to falsify their time sheet. Contact your job steward immediately if you are given this directive from your manager.
By not compensating members working overtime as per the collective agreement and managers making deals outside of the collective agreement, the employer is in violation of Article 1 and Article 11 of the collective agreement. Managers cannot make private deals with members regarding conditions of employment as MoveUP is the exclusive bargaining agent for our members.
The Union has spoken with the employer and advised them that this practice must stop immediately and members are to be compensated when working overtime as per Article 11.02 of the collective agreement.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact your job steward.
In solidarity,
Barbara Junker
Union Representative
