Possible Canada Line Skytrain Service Disruption – Labour Dispute

January 31, 2021

To: All MoveUP members in the Lower Mainland

All MoveUP members who ordinarily use the Canada Line Skytrain in their commute should be aware that Canada Line workers could put up picket lines at their workplaces as early as tomorrow, Monday, February 1 at 4 p.m.

The BC Government Employees’ Union (BCGEU) represents the workers who are employed by Canada Line operator Protrans BC. On Friday, the BCGEU issued 72-hour strike notice after their contract negotiations broke down.

This could mean that MoveUP members who use the Canada Line (not the other Skytrain Lines) could see picket lines at the stations. I know this could be an inconvenience; however, I ask all our members to respect possible picket lines. Just as we want the support of workers from other unions when we are in bargaining, so too we should support them in their struggles.

In solidarity,

David Black, President
