Job Action

PrairieCoast – Job Action Update #2

May 8, 2023

To: All MoveUP members at PCE

We are at the start of the second week of job action and still your employer has taken no significant action to reach a first collective agreement since strike notice was served.

Community support has been pouring in through the web page MoveUP launched last week. Customers of PrairieCoast, as well as community members and advocacy groups including the New West & District Labour Council, and even former employees of PrairieCoast have voiced support.

One community member commented “Pay them what they are worth. No tractors, no farms, no farms, no food.” Another said “Your workers are vital to our communities. Farmers, gardeners rely on them. Smarten up as a responsible company and give them their due.”

Today, your union began leafletting at businesses near PrairieCoast Langley. We spoke with many community members who were surprised and saddened that the workers had to commence job action in attempt to reach agreement on a contract.

Local businesses were supportive, with a number of them posting our flyers on their doors and bulletin boards. Our social media campaign has continued with daily shares by the union.

On Thursday your union tabled yet another proposal to your employer and a response has not been received.
