MoveUP Continues To Advocate For Site C Members Following Release of BCUC Final Report

November 1, 2017

To: All MoveUP Members in Fort St. John

The BC Utilities Commission (BCUC) has released its final report on Site C.  It concludes that Site C is over budget, unlikely to be completed by 2024 and poses a significant financial risk to the province.

The NDP government is still gathering input from First Nations communities and has promised a decision on whether to continue, cancel or delay the project before the end of the year.  MoveUP has no way of knowing what the outcome will be.

I understand this news may cause anxiety for you and your families, as the uncertainty over the future of Site C continues. If the previous Liberal government hadn’t exempted Site C from the BCUC process, we wouldn’t be in this mess in the first place.

However, I want to assure you that MoveUP is doing everything possible to protect your jobs and livelihoods.

As President, I’ve advocated for you at the highest political levels. This includes discussing your concerns with Premier John Horgan as well as the minister responsible for Site C, Michelle Mungall. I delivered a presentation to the BCUC and urged the panel to consider the people whose lives will be affected by their report. I spoke to Global TV about this issue and the interview was featured in a national news report. There were also other local news stories.

As you know, we have received assurances from BC Hydro that if the worst happens and the project is cancelled, you will not be without a job.  However, it may not be in Fort St. John and that is obviously the concern for you and your families.

Please be assured our members’ best interests are our highest priority and we will continue to speak up and advocate for you, while working this through together.

I look forward to seeing you at next week’s meeting in Fort St. John.

In solidarity,

David Black, President
Gwenne Farrell, VP Utilities
