MoveUP Celebrates Mid-Autumn Festival

September 19, 2017

To: All MoveUP members in the lower mainland

For over 3,000 years, cultures including Chinese, Taiwanese, Japanese and Korean have celebrated the mid-autumn festival which honours the harvest moon. The annual celebration is continued today by many Canadians with those cultural backgrounds.

Traditionally, the Chinese version of the mid-autumn festival – also known as the Mooncake Festival – involves carrying brightly-lit lanterns and eating mooncakes, which are small, round pastries with a sweet filling.

Each year, the MoveUP Multicultural Committee shares this tradition with our members by distributing mooncakes at our Lower Mainland worksites.

This year the Festival falls on Wednesday, October 4th. And we need your help.

If you are a job steward, councillor or distributor who is interested in participating by helping in the distribution of mooncakes at your worksite we want to hear from you. Email us here and provide estimate of how many cakes you will need. Each mooncake is individual-sized. We will contact you in advance to let you know if and when we can meet your request.

Deadline to make your request is Monday, September 25th.

We will have the mooncakes delivered to your worksite approximately on October 3 for distribution on October 4.

In Solidarity,
MoveUP Multicultural Committee
