Learn, Grow and Lead by Becoming a Job Steward

July 16, 2020

To: All MoveUP Members at FortisBC Inc.

Our job stewards occupy some of the most important roles in our union. Stewards are the union’s eyes and ears on the job. They provide leadership, information, and insight into what issues and grievances the membership has. They play an important role providing information to union representatives and elected representatives at the MoveUP office. Stewards offer support and guidance to their co-workers and keep little problems from becoming big ones, especially during this pandemic.

Becoming a job steward is a rewarding experience. It’s an opportunity to help and support your colleagues while learning valuable skills. As a steward, you will learn about workers’ rights and how to stand up to make sure members in your workplace are treated fairly.

Due to the pandemic, we are not offering in person training at this time. However, MoveUP is offering virtual training, where you will learn what a Job Steward’s role and responsibilities are and the tools to ensure members’ rights are protected. Online training is a whole new exciting way to learn!

We’re looking for people we can train to be top-notch workplace advocates. We want to make sure you and your co-workers get all the information and support that you need, especially during this uncertain time.

Please read our online member guide “What is a Job Steward and How do I Become One?” and consider putting your name forward. If your workplace already has a steward, that’s okay. Every workplace can and should have more than one steward so there is coverage if someone is away.

If you are interested in becoming a job steward or learning more about the role, please email Vice President Rysa Kronebusch at rkronebusch@moveuptogether.ca

I look forward to hearing from you!

In solidarity

Rysa Kronebusch
Vice-President, Utilities
