About MoveUP’s involvement in the Period Promise campaign

Originally launched in 2016 as “Tampon Tuesday,” the goal of the United Way’s Period Promise campaign is to increase access to free menstrual products in our community so that everyone who menstruates can go to work, get to school, access services, and stay connected to their community.

MoveUP and our Women & Gender Rights Committee have proudly supported the campaign since the beginning. In 2019, when the campaign morphed to become “Period Promise,” our union was one of the first signatories to the promise. We committed to making menstrual products available for free in our washroom facilities, and we encouraged all our employers to do the same.

As we celebrate the 10th year anniversary, our goal this year is to try and exceed our past contributions and raise more money than ever before.

We are looking forward to you joining us at our celebration and kickoff event as we look over the history of the campaign, share tips on how to run a successful Period Promise campaign at your workplace, as well as hear a presentation from The Flow Coalition, a group of young people leading the charge to supply free menstrual products in Burnaby and Vancouver schools.

On behalf of your Women & Gender Rights Committee,
Christy Slusarenko, Chair
