Join us in Supporting the United Way Period Promise Campaign

May 4, 2021

To: All MoveUP Members

MoveUP is proud to, once again, participate in the United Way Period Promise Campaign. Although things will look a little bit different this year than our previous campaigns, the end goal of supporting everybody who menstruates – women, girls, non-binary and transgender people – and ending period poverty remains the same.

Periods are a fact of life. For those living in poverty – or vulnerable in other ways – access to necessary menstrual products can be challenging. The COVID-19 pandemic has made it more difficult.

Not having the product you need when you need it is difficult and sometimes embarrassing. Too many single mothers must choose between buying tampons or food for their families. Too many trans and non-binary kids are scrambling silently in washrooms and putting together makeshift pads that do not suit their needs. Too many families miss out on social events because it is easier to stay home than risk bleeding in public.

The United Way Period Promise campaign mobilizes us to be a part of the solution. Together, we can tackle period poverty and make our community more accessible for everybody.

How we, and you, can help

MoveUP’s Period Promise campaign will run from May 6 to June 3. Given the current pandemic and restrictions we are hosting a hybrid campaign.

Donate financially

If you are able to give financially, please use this unique URL to make a contribution: http://bit.ly/moveupperiod. This code is specific for MoveUP financial donations that the United Way will track and then be able to purchase products through their partnerships at a discounted rate.

Donate product

If you are working in your normal workplace, we encourage you to collect products in your workplace or with your friends and families. On Saturday May 29, near the end of our campaign, our Women’s Rights Committee plans to host a drive-through product collection event at the United Way of the Lower Mainland’s office in Burnaby. We will provide the details closer to the date, as we will be ensuring we follow all safety and public health protocols in place at that time.

What your support means

With the help of thousands of donors, United Way has been able to distribute more than 1.2 million menstrual products to community organizations in the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, and Sea-to-Sky Corridor. We are committed to making it easier for everybody to access the product they need when they need it. Let’s help United Way reach an even higher goal this year and improve the health and well-being of people and make it easier for them to stay engaged in their communities.

In solidarity,
