ICBC’s Safety Plan – Urgent Action Needed
June 2, 2020
To: All MoveUP OH&S Committees and OH&S Worker Representatives at ICBC
ICBC has developed a Safety Plan and guidelines for eventual return to ICBC offices. They are required to send the Safety Plan and guidelines to all local OH&S Committees and OH&S Worker Representatives at ICBC for review. MoveUP has been in discussion with ICBC’s health and safety department and has advocated for local OH&S Committees to review the Safety Plan and guidelines and provide feedback – as is required under OH&S law.
OH&S Committees and OH&S Worker Representatives need to review the Safety Plan and guidelines to ensure it meets the needs of your specific work location by June 4, 2020. This might mean you call an urgent OH&S Meeting to review and discuss the Safety Plan and guidelines so you can provide feedback to your ICBC Provincial OH&S Committee by the June 4, 2020 deadline.
This feedback should include site specific controls to limit exposure to Covid-19. You can use the Exposure Control Plan – Covid-19 for guidance: https://moveuptogether.ca/resources/flattenthecurve/.
OH&S Committees and OH&S Worker Representatives represent all employees with their health and safety matters. You are the experts in what health and safety looks like at your work location. It is a crucial role.
Attached is a guideline from the WCB regarding returning offices to operation. It provides information on what OH&S Committees should consider when returning people back to their work locations, including:
- Building access
- Workplace operations
- Workstations
- Communal spaces
- Outside visitors
- Deliveries
- Transportation
- Elevator use
If you have any questions or concerns about ICBC’s Safety Plan, please discuss with your OH&S Committees and ICBC managers. If you cannot find a solution together, please contact MoveUP’s OH&S Representative, Niki Schnurr, at nschnurr@moveuptogether.ca.
In Solidarity,
Niki Schnurr
