ICBC – Employer denying your seniority rights is a violation – We’re fighting it

October 22, 2026

To: All ICBC members who work at Driver Licensing Offices

We have learned recently that your employer is wrongfully excluding Driver Examiners who are gradually returning to work from illness or injury from participating in shift bids. As a result, Driver Examiners are being denied their seniority rights to their preferred shift, especially for those who prefer to work Saturdays.

This is a clear violation of both Article 12.10 of your Collective Agreement, and Section 13 of the B.C. Human Rights Code. It is completely unacceptable to prevent members who are healing from an illness or injury from rightfully exercising their seniority rights to choose their preferred shift.

We have filed a policy grievance to fight this issue. Our next step is to meet with your employer in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, if you have been affected by this new policy, please reach out to me at JScott@moveuptogether.ca.

In solidarity,

Jaime Scott, Union Representative
