ICBC – Claims Adjuster Workload Complaint Update

To: All MoveUP members in ICBC Claims Adjusters and Claims Adjusters Commercial roles
The Workload Committee for the Claims Adjuster Workload Complaint has met several times with management over the past few months to review and discuss the complaint and generate recommendations.
Management has been quite focused on the new claims handling procedure that launched on February 9th. While your committee recognized that the Auto Claims Model would result in changes, we felt it important to also put forward recommendations that could compliment this new system.
On Jan. 30, your committee submitted a list of 17 recommendations to Ms. Sabi Bains, Director of Claims Operations. Under LOU#18 of your collective agreement, a response is required that outlines intended actions.
Your committee received a response from one of the management representatives on the committee, rather than from Ms. Bains. The response failed to address any of the recommendations put forward by the committee, nor did it outline any intended actions to be taken in relation to the recommendations.
For that reason, your union filed a grievance against your employer for failing to following the provisions of LOU#18 in terms of responding to the recommendations, and failing to provide disclosure of productivity information and/or workload volume standards.
Once again, thank you to the members who have participated in the complaint for coming forward and sharing their feedback, and to the appointed committee members who are dedicating their valuable time and energy to advocating for improvements to workload.
We will continue to provide updates as this matter progresses.
