ICBC – Bargaining – Update #3

October 31, 2022

To: All MoveUP members at ICBC

Your bargaining committee met with ICBC on four days over the past two weeks to open conversations on some of the non-monetary proposals on the table, as well as renew some of the letters of understanding in your collective agreement. We discussed working from home, workload, provincial scheduling, training, and the office closures that were recently announced. Conversations on these topics are in preliminary stages and remain ongoing.

We also had a lengthy discussion with ICBC regarding its proposal to introduce a casual Driver Examiner workforce. While we do not support introducing a casual workforce at ICBC, we are committed to addressing the staffing and workload concerns that Driver Examiners are facing and have responded with a counterproposal that would see ICBC hire additional Driver Examiners in a regular status. This counterproposal is currently being reviewed by ICBC.

To further support our ongoing conversation with ICBC regarding workload, we are conducting another workload survey targeted at specific departments where we hear consistent concerns about workload. Please watch your email for the arrival of this survey in the near future.

Conversations regarding monetary proposals, or proposals that have costs associated with them, including benefits and other entitlements, have not been discussed and will not be discussed until further discussion regarding the non-monetary proposals has occurred. Negotiations will reconvene on November 8 and 9 and we will update you following those dates.

If you have any questions for your bargaining committee, please email icbcbarg@moveuptogether.ca
