Hastings Entertainment Inc. – Press Release Information

To: All MoveUP members Employed at Hastings Entertainment Inc.
Your Union has recently been in discussions with your employer, Great Canadian, on a proposed roll over collective agreement. However, this past Tuesday, November 10, 2020, at around 8 p.m., we received the press release from Great Canadian advising us of a pending sale. Your Union wants you to know that we are as surprised as many of you are with this announcement.
To receive further information on this sale, we are planning a meeting with Great Canadian next week to discuss what this will mean for our members. Your collective agreement has very strong language on successorship which means that your Union and the collective agreement will remain in place.
We understand these are challenging times for all our members, and the news regarding the sale of Great Canadian will add to the challenges. Your Union will be doing everything necessary to ensure we have as much information as possible to share with you in the coming days.
All of you have the protection of the current collective agreement, which continues in full force and effect until we reach a renewal collective agreement. Your Union will also be applying to the British Columbia Labour Board under Section 35 to ensure we protect your rights.
