FortisBC-CSC Prince George – Grievance Settlement: Mandatory Weekend Scheduling of UPTRs
August 5, 2026
All MoveUP Members at FortisBC-CSC Prince George
I write to inform you that the union and the company have settled the matter of the company assigning mandatory weekend shifts to Unscheduled Part-Time Regular MoveUP members in violation of past practice.
In return for the withdrawal of the union’s grievance, the company has agreed that they will resume the practice of offering weekend shifts to UPTRs and students on a voluntary basis using the following procedure:
- MoveUP members will indicate whether they volunteer for weekend shifts via their shift preference forms.
. - Workforce will assign weekend shifts to volunteers according to their preference in order of seniority, provided
- The work can be assigned at straight time in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement.
- The member has the skillset required for the assigned work.
- Only if there are not enough volunteers to fill all the required shifts, the company will assign shifts in reverse order of seniority, from lowest to highest, until all the shifts are filled.
This agreement will stand until the expiry of the collective agreement on March 31, 2027, after which, the company has told us they will exercise their legal right to rescind it in collective bargaining. At that time, weekend UPTR shifts may become mandatory unless another process is agreed to by the parties.
Thank you to the members who participated in filing this grievance. It is because of you that we were able to secure this outcome.
In solidarity,
Paul Voykin, Union Representative
Andrea Parsons, Executive Councillor
