FortisBC-CSC & FortisBC – Federal statutory holiday announced for September 19 and how that affects you.

To: All MoveUP members at FBC & FBC-CSC
The federal government has announced that Monday, September 19, 2022, will be a holiday for the federal public service to mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The provincial government has also announced that provincial public sector employers have been advised to honour this day in recognition of the obligations around federal holidays that exist in most provincial collective agreements.
Article 13.01 of your collective agreement currently recognizes twelve (12) statutory holidays, “and any other day declared a holiday by Federal, Provincial and Civic Governments. Civic Holidays shall be observed only in the area affected.”
Your Employer has informed us that they will not be observing the holiday, and will be requiring all employees to report to work. You should attend work as directed by your Employer. However, we do not agree with your Employer’s interpretation of the collective agreement and are filing a grievance to have the matter resolved.
