FortisBC – Bargaining Update #20 – Retroactive Payment of Wages for Members who were on Long-Term Disability since July 1, 2023
October 30, 2024
To: All MoveUP members at FortisBC
The company has confirmed that members who were on LTD for some portion of the retroactive payment period agreed upon in your new collective agreement (July 1, 2023 – present) will get the following treatment:
For members who were on LTD prior to July 1, 2023, and who have returned to the workplace:
Your wage will be adjusted to the updated rate as of the date you returned to work, and you will receive a retroactive lump sum payment from the company for time worked after your return.
For members who were at work on July 1, 2023, who then went on LTD and have not yet returned to the workplace:
You will receive a retroactive lump sum payment from the company for your time worked between July 1, 2023, and the date you went on LTD.
As LTD payments are calculated based on the recipient’s wages on their last day worked prior to their leave, the company will inform the insurer of your updated rate. The insurer will then pay you a retroactive lump sum to make up the difference between what you were already paid based on your old rate and what you would have been paid based on your new one. Payments going forward will be adjusted to reflect your new rate.
The company has confirmed that the income from these lump sum payments will not affect or reduce the regular payments you are receiving.
For members who were at work on July 1, 2023, then went off on LTD, and have since returned to the workplace:
You will receive a retroactive lump sum payment from the company for time worked prior to going on LTD.
You will receive a retroactive lump sum payment from the company for time worked since your return from LTD.
