Education Committee – 2022 Spring Schedule
April 8, 2022
To: All MoveUP Job Stewards, Executive Councillors and Executive Board
We are pleased to announce our Spring schedule for in-person classes of our recently renewed Job Steward Level One and Job Steward Level Two courses will start next month!
This new material is a departure from what we have done previously, where we focused mainly on grievance handling. Now, the new and improved JS1 and JS2 will cover off topics of advocacy, history and organizing, along with the requirements for handling grievances. These courses will help to build capacity of our stewards, to be stronger leaders in all aspects of our union’s work.
- Job Steward Level One
May 14 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. & May 15 9:30 a.m. to Noon
Register here. 12 maximum
This course is open to all job stewards.
This course is ideal for new job stewards who are eager to learn and grow into their position of job steward. You will learn about union and the labour movement, and will start to learn about the grievance process and the importance of the steward in our workplaces.
NB. You must complete both days to receive your certificate of completion. - Job Steward Level Two
June 11 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. & June 12 9:30 a.m. to Noon
Register here. 12 maximum
This course is the follow-up to Job Steward Level One. You will expand your knowledge and confidence in your roll as steward as you learn some of the more complex labour relations topics that stewards face.
NB. You must complete both days to receive your certificate of completion. Prerequisite course: Job Steward Level One.
*Health and Safety: As we continue to work with the provincial health orders, all members registering to attend these courses must be double vaccinated and follow MoveUP safety guidelines, including a health assessment before arrival. Masks are to be worn while moving around the classroom, mingling and in all common areas. Class sizes are 12 maximum. In the event the PHO orders change we may need to reschedule our in-person classes to online.
We look forward to seeing you in-person at one of these sessions!
