Come show solidarity with locked out hotel workers on April 14

April 12, 2022

To: MoveUP Members in the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley

This Thursday, April 14, members of Unite Here! Local 40 will be holding a rally starting at 5:00 pm to mark one year since they were locked out by their employer, the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel, and they are inviting other union and community members to join them in a show of solidarity.

This is the longest hotel lockout in the history of BC. Hilton Metrotown workers have been locked out and picketing every day since April 15, 2021. These workers have been picketing in the rain, heat and snow, all while the Hilton Metrotown continues to take advantage of COVID-19 pandemic and profit from their staff.

If you have never participated in a rally before, as a unionist there is nothing like the sight of support from all other unions walking the line. For those who have participated in a rally before, you will know the energy that solidarity brings. We hope to see you there, and please feel free to bring a friend with you!

Let’s show this employer that profiting off the backs of workers will not be tolerated. Let’s show our support for the members of Unite Here! Local 40.

Date: Thursday, April 14
Time: 5:00 pm Pacific Time
Location: Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel (6083 McKay Avenue, Burnaby)
