Coast Mountain Bus Company: Unifor 111 and 2200 Strike vote

May 27, 2026

To: All MoveUP Members at Coast Mountain Bus Company

As many of you may already know, Unifor 111 and 2200 have taken a strike vote and received a strong strike mandate from their members.

What does this mean?

Unifor members at CMBC will be in a legal position to commence job action, provided they serve the employer with 72 hours’ notice.

A strike mandate does not necessarily mean Unifor will exercise their right to strike. They could take collective action while still on the job to pressure the employer or draw attention to the issues at the bargaining table.

Your union is in contact with Unifor and we are closely monitoring this situation.

Only the Labour Relations Board can determine if a picket line is illegal. If at any time you come across what appears to be a picket line, please do not cross it and contact your Union Representative Andrew Cheverie at 604-473-3896 or the MoveUP office at 604-299-0378 so that we can provide further direction. Further to this, if there is a legal picket line, please do not work from home.

Showing solidarity by respecting the picket lines of other unions, especially in workplaces with multiple unions, is part of the union fundamentals we as union members must be committed to. When we are facing job action of another union, we will stand on their picket line just as we would do if it was our own job action. For more information, please follow this link:

What can members expect?

In the coming days, your elected Executive Councillors, Union Representatives and Vice-President will be meeting to create a job action committee. We will be contacting Unifor leadership to commit our support in hopes they will provide us with updates and notice should their action escalate. We will do our best to inform and communicate with our members as information becomes available.

Picket pay is available to our members while they respect the picket lines of other unions through our defence fund. Our Secretary-Treasurer will work with the job action committee to establish the requirements for picket pay. More details about eligibility for picket pay will be communicated to you as needed.

In the meantime, please collect your last 3 pay stubs, as we will need them to process picket pay should Unifor escalate to a full a strike.

Please also ensure that we have your updated personal email address. We will not use the employer email addresses to communicate with you if this escalates. You can update your email address by logging onto the member portal at https://memberportal.moveuptogether.ca.

In solidarity,

Andrew Cheverie, Union Representative
Dora Wong, Union Representative
Christy Slusakrenko, Vice-President, Combined Units
