Coast Mountain Bus – Bargaining Update #1

May 29, 2023

To: All MoveUP members at Coast Mountain Bus

Thank you to all members who provided feedback during the bargaining preparation process.  Some were able to complete the online survey while others provided verbal feedback.  Additionally, thank you to those who were able to participate in the committee election.  As a result, we have a strong, well rounded committee.

Your bargaining committee has been working very hard to develop proposals for presentation to the employer.  This process utilizes information obtained through various sources such as the bargaining survey and job steward experiences during the life of the last collective bargaining agreement.  While it is no surprise that bargaining is the opportunity to improve wages and benefits, it is also the opportunity to address issues which have arisen during the life of the agreement.  In order to address some issues, entirely new language is required while in other cases language needs to be rewritten or clarified.  In order to be done properly the process does take some time.  We have completed a draft of the proposals and are now in the process of having them approved by MoveUP leadership.

Once the proposals are approved we will be scheduling a virtual meeting with the membership to provide an overview of the proposals and to discuss any outstanding issues.

In the meantime, we have set 13 dates with CMBC and will be heading to the table to begin bargaining on June 27.

As always our goal will be to achieve the best possible agreement as quickly as possible.

We want to thank you all for your support to this point.  We will continue to provide updates as the process moves forward.

In Solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee:

Tej Basi, Executive Councillor
Simone Byrne, Job Steward
Sean Gosse, Executive Councillor
Stephen Lebrechthausen, Job Steward
Andrew Cheverie, Union Representative Trainee
Shawn Lakusta, Union Representative
