CapilanoU – Continued Mask Usage On Campus

April 5, 2022

To: All MoveUP members at CAPU

As of last Thursday, 7.3 per cent of COVID-19 tests in B.C. are coming back positive. The test positivity rate has begun to rise again since the first 2 weeks of March, indicating the possible start of a 6th wave of increased COVID-19 transmission in our province. Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry has said anything above a five per cent test-positivity rate is an indicator of a more worrying level of transmission.

As of right now, the University remains supportive of masks as a personal choice, adopting a “you can choose to wear one, if you want” approach based on current recommendations from the PHO.

Due to the unique nature of the University as a workplace, we strongly recommend that MoveUP members continue to wear masks whenever possible on campus.

Access your sick leave entitlements if you feel sick. Practice good hand hygiene. Unless the PHO recommendations change in response to increased cases in the province, it’s up to all of us on an individual level to take steps to minimize our risks to ourselves and others.

In solidarity,

Nathan Beausoleil
Union Representative
