Capilano University – Remembering Brenda Rovner

September 9, 2020

To: All MoveUP Members at CapilanoU

On Monday, September 7, 2020, our MoveUP family suffered a very sad and tremendous loss with the passing of Brenda Rovner.

Brenda was an immense advocate for the employees of our university for all of her 32 years in the finance department. For over 20 years, Brenda was a job steward, an executive councillor, and sat on numerous bargaining committees. We all owe a great deal of gratitude to Brenda as her work, effort and commitment to our membership will benefit all present university staff members of MoveUP and those in the future.

Brenda was as strong as they came. Her love for family, friends, and colleagues was ever-present as was her zest for life. We will all carry a little bit of Brenda’s tenacity with us for the rest of our lives.

Brenda was a champion of the rights and interests of the working people of British Columbia, and an activist who earned the respect of her fellow union members through her tireless and unrelenting advocacy for the rights of all workers at Capilano University.

It was Brenda’s honour to represent this membership, and it was our honour to have known her.

In celebration of Brenda, please consider contributing to a progressive charity in her memory.

Rest in Power, Brenda.

David Black, President
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President Combined Units
Lori Mayhew, Secretary-Treasurer
Rysa Kronebusch, Vice-President Utilities Unit
Annette Toth, Vice-President ICBC Unit
