Bargaining
Burnaby English Language Centre – Bargaining Update
To: All MoveUP members at Burnaby English Language Centre
Your bargaining committee met with management on March 13, 2019 to begin the process of renewing the collective agreement. A strategic decision was made to ensure that BELC received the Union’s proposals prior to BELC’s deadline to submit a proposal to Immigrant Refugee Citizenship Canada for continued funding. Specifically, your committee felt that it was imperative that management was aware that our members would be looking for wage increases going forward. Not surprisingly, management indicated they were aware that its employees would be looking for wage increases.
The parties also discussed and agreed to some basic bargaining protocols such as the right to caucus as the process moves forward.
Following a review of your Union’s proposals it was agreed that the parties would meet after the April 12th deadline to submit the IRCC proposal to continue the bargaining process. It was agreed that non-monetary proposals would be discussed before monetary issues. This is standard bargaining practice.
If you have any questions please contact your bargaining committee.
In Solidarity,
Your Bargaining Committee
