BCH – Site C – Incentives and Camp Stay Options

July 22, 2019

To: All MoveUP members at BC Hydro

In response to concerns from our members about the additional costs of working at the Site C project, MoveUP has, over time, obtained the following compensation above base salary for all Full Time Regular and Full Time Temporary members who are headquartered in Fort St. John working at Site C:

  • A Remote Incentive of 12% of base salary;
  • Temporary Additional Pay of 5% of base salary;
  • An Annual Travel Incentive ranging from $1400 to $5900 depending on the number of family members;
  • Relocation support in accordance with Article 5.12 of the collective agreement for members relocating to Fort St. John.

However, despite these added incentives, several members have indicated that they would prefer to stay in camp at Site C during work shifts rather than relocate their permanent residence.

Last week, BC Hydro and MoveUP reached an agreement to provide MoveUP members with options of staying in camp rather than relocate to Fort St. John, either on an employee-pay or company-pay basis. Members electing a camp-stay option will receive some, but not all, of the incentives offered to employees residing in or relocating to Fort St. John. The intention of the options is to provide flexibility for MoveUP members considering working at Site C.

To ensure fairness, MoveUP members electing a camp-stay option will also have the option of cancelling and relocating to Fort St. John at any time under the current terms, with all of the incentives currently available. Additionally, any MoveUP members who have already relocated to Fort St. John will be given a one-time option of moving to a camp-stay option should they desire to do so.

A copy of the signed agreement can be found here.

In solidarity,

Tony Geluch, Union Representative
