BCH & Powertech – Bargaining: Summer Update

July 21, 2022

To: All MoveUP members at BCH & Powertech

We hope you are all enjoying your summer and taking some much-needed time off.

Your bargaining committee would like to provide a quick update to all our members to alleviate any misconceptions related to our bargaining status.

At this point, we have not begun bargaining (otherwise known as negotiating) with your employer. While your collective agreement expired back on March 31, the continuation clause in the agreement means that we will continue to operate status quo until such time we have a new agreement.

At this point, there is NO talk or contemplation of any job action, including a strike. We are simply not at that point in the process right now, and we continue to have good dialogue with your employer as we await our scheduled bargaining dates.

You may have seen other public sector unions and employers in the process of negotiating, such as the BCGEU in the news. Even though they are also in the public sector, they are all separate entities, and they bargain only for their respective units.

While we share information with other public sector unions on the status of our bargaining, our job is to bargain solely for you. In short, you will hear directly from us regarding the status of our bargaining and any actions there are to take.

We are scheduled to be at the bargaining table with BC Hydro in September. We look forward to updating you shortly after that.

We wish you all a continued safe and enjoyable summer.

In solidarity,

Mike Novak, Union Representative
Javed Saheb, Union Representative
Rysa Kronebusch, Vice-President – Utilities
Anderson Charles, Bargaining Committee Member
Calvin Jonas, Bargaining Committee Member
Shelly Johnston, Bargaining Committee Member
Kelly Cammack, Bargaining Committee Member
Rhys Coulter, Bargaining Committee Member
