BCH – Overtime payment settled for eligible Respectful Training Workshop attendees

To: All MoveUP members at BCH
We are pleased to let you know that employees who were on scheduled leave and required to attend one of the two respectful workplace training sessions – “Be More Than A Bystander” – on January 12 or 14 will be paid overtime.
As you know, MoveUP members at HRC were required to attend one of these two sessions. We became aware that some employees were on scheduled leave when these sessions were scheduled but were not paid overtime for their participation.
The employer took the position that all time worked associated with employee training would be paid at straight time in accordance with Article 12.04g of the collective agreement. We took the position that time worked associated with employee training while on scheduled leave should be paid at overtime rates in accordance with Articles 11 through 14 of your collective agreement.
After reviewing this matter with the employer we are happy to announce that all eligible employees will be paid overtime.
