BCGEU – Learn and Grow by Becoming a Union Observer

To: All Job Stewards at the BCGEU
Becoming a Union Observer is an important and rewarding experience. It is an opportunity to help support your colleagues through the internal hiring process by ensuring all candidates are treated in a fair and impartial manner, with the potential to report the actions of the job selection panel to the Union if needed.
As a shop steward, you are already a top-notch workplace advocate. Union observers must maintain the strictest confidentiality; under no circumstances are the panel proceedings to be discussed with anyone other than a Union representative.
As set out in Article 17.6 of your collective agreement, Union Observers are appointed by the President and are obliged to observe the selection panels in accordance with MoveUP’s instructions.
