BCGEU – Bargaining Update # 8

November 10, 2021

To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU

We would first like to take the opportunity to congratulate and commend all of you on completing two successful days of job action to support your fight for a fair collective agreement. Thank you!

We also thank the Job Action Committee for all their enthusiasm and efforts organizing these days and all of you for your courage and commitment when called to action. We also wish to thank the UWU members for their steadfast support throughout this time. This is what real solidarity looks like.

Let’s be clear: yesterday’s walkout, today’s picketing activity at certain locations, as well as striking access to the UnionWare system were all legally sanctioned and legitimate job actions. For the employer to allege or infer that any of these actions were unnecessary or unlawful is, quite frankly, offensive, and untrue.

Let’s also be clear that we have negotiated in good faith and have remained committed to the mediation process at all times. As such, we have agreed to return to mediation on Tuesday, November 16th with Vince Ready. We remain hopeful that the employer now understands that we mean it when we say further movement on their part is required to achieve a renewed collective agreement. We will provide a further update following mediation.

In solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee:

Carmen McChesney, Committee Member
Doris Stowe, Committee Member
Gaganpreet Gill, Committee Member
Meaghan Morrice, Committee Member
Amy Turton, Committee Member
Trevor Hansen, Union Representative
Phillip Bargen, Union Representative
