BCGEU – Bargaining Update #6

February 14, 2024

To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU

Hello to all of our BCGEU MoveUP members. As an update, bargaining began in January, and we have met with the employer six times since then. We also have three more days scheduled for next week on February 20th, 21st and 22nd and then also on February 29th and March 1st. We have been successful at signing off on many non-monetary proposals and have made some modest monetary gains for our members as well. We are now heading into the serious monetary proposals, as well as other proposals important to our bargaining unit which we are hoping to achieve at the table. We will be looking for your support as we move into these more difficult bargaining issues. We will keep you posted on further developments as well as to future bargaining dates. Please feel free to email any questions or concerns to our BCGEU bargaining email at bcgeubargaining@moveuptogether.ca

The bargaining committee would also like to remind you all to review your benefit entitlements on the SunLife website and avail yourself of the different paramedicals listed there including unlimited physiotherapy, that are not all listed in the collective agreement.

We would also like to remind you of your rights under Article 17.6 in the collective agreement around your ability to request a union observer during job interviews. Also, if you are the unsuccessful applicant for a posting, you have the right under Article 17.5 (f) to submit requests to H.R. for them to provide you with the full reasons why you were not successful, in writing, no later then fourteen days after the request was made.

Lastly, there was an email from the employer on February 5th, 2024, around multi-factor authentication for logging on. As MoveUP members, you are not required to use your personal cell phone for this application. The employer will be providing you with a token, or dongle, which is a small device which will allow you to be authenticated for logging into the Microsoft Office 365 applications.

Please make sure that your personal email address is up to date on the member portal so that you can receive- all further updates and bulletins. We will continue to update you as we make progress at the bargaining table as well as on any other pertinent issues.

In solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee:

Meaghan Morrice, Executive Councillor
Doris Stowe, Executive Councillor
Tara Copeland, Job Steward
Robelyn Martin, Job Steward
Phil Bargen, Union Representative
