BCGEU – Bargaining Update # 4

October 20, 2021

To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU

Following two further days of mediation on October 14 & 15 and discussion earlier this week between the parties to reach a mediated settlement, your union has been notified that the BCGEU has applied to the Labour Relations Board under Section 78 of the Labour Code to force a final offer vote on our members.

This means the Labour Relations Board must hold a vote among our BCGEU members on the last offer presented to your bargaining committee by the employer.

Your bargaining committee believes that the BCGEU can do better and is recommending that you not accept this Final Offer. This last offer falls far short of what you told us was important to you, particularly the ability to work remotely. The parties have been unable to come to an agreement on that, as well as several other proposals important to you, including wages, benefits, and workload.  Your employer believes they can get away with less than what we know is a fair deal for everyone.

The date and time of the vote will be determined over the next few days by the Labour Board. We will share those details with you once we have them.

We are also in the process of organizing an after work membership meeting later this week to discuss the BCGEU’s final offer. Please make every effort to attend the meeting to have all your questions answered.

In solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee:

Carmen McChesney, Committee Member
Doris Stowe, Committee Member
Gaganpreet Gill, Committee Member
Meaghan Morrice, Committee Member
Amy Turton, Committee Member
Trevor Hansen, Union Representative
Phillip Bargen, Union Representative
