BCAA -SL – Bargaining – Tentative Agreement Reached

Your bargaining committee is pleased to advise that we reached a tentative agreement with BCAA on Friday and are recommending ratification by the membership.

Highlights of the deal include:

  • 4-year renewal effective October 1, 2022, to September 30, 2026
  • Wage increases as follows:
    • 4% fully retroactive to October 1, 2022
    • 4% effective October 1, 2023
    • 3.5% effective October 1, 2024*
    • 3% effective October 1, 2025*

*Note: should the BC Consumer Pricing Index exceed 5% for the prior 12-month period (August to August) ending in 2024 and 2025, an additional wage increase of 0.5% will be effective on October 1 in 2024 and 2025.

  • Benefit increases as follows:
    • One additional paid Wellness Day per year.
    • Prescription fee coverage increased to $15.
    • Eyeglasses, contact lenses and laser eye surgery Option 3 increased to $350/24 months and Option 4 to $400/24 months.
    • Wellness Account increased to $300 for regular full time and $200 for regular part time employees.
    • Medically necessary wigs increased to $1000 lifetime.
    • Out of country Emergency medical care increased to $2 million lifetime.
  • First Aid premiums increased to $45 for Level 1 and $90 for Level 2.
  • Bereavement Leave increased to 5 days and to included parents’ siblings and siblings’ children.
  • Special Leave updated to include all family emergencies.
  • New Paid Volunteer Day per year.
  • New Paid Cultural, Religious & Spiritual Day per year.
  • Inclusion of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation as a Paid Holiday.
  • Duty Officer Premium increased to $3.50 per hour.
  • Improved annual vacation sign-up process.
  • Banked overtime now paid out upon employee’s request and not on September 30 each year.

Your bargaining committee will be hosting a ZOOM meeting on Monday, May 8th at 7:00 pm to review the details of the tentative agreement and answer your questions. Following that meeting, you will be able to vote online via your Member Portal on our website to ratify the renewed agreement.
