BC Transit – COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate Update
October 13, 2022
To: All MoveUP members at BC Transit
Below is an update on some items relating to the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate:
1) BC Transit has confirmed that the mandate will stay in place until the end of the year. The justification for this position is the concern that another wave may happen in the fall.
2) MoveUP has chosen to withdraw its Section 54 application at the BC Labour Relations Board. As the mandate has been in place for approximately ten months now it was determined that there was little point to making an argument that BC Transit did not provide enough notice before implementing the mandate.
3) The policy grievance concerning certain parts of the COVID-19 Vaccine Mandate has been scheduled for July 17-19, 2023 in front of Arbitrator Ken Saunders. MoveUP will not be opposing the mandate in general but merely parts which appear to be unreasonable.
4) BC Transit is in the process of offering severance packages to members who have not complied with the mandate. The packages are voluntary, and members can choose to continue to be BC Transit employees by not accepting the package.
