BC Transit – Bargaining Update #4

January 24, 2023

To: All MoveUP members at BC Transit

Your bargaining committee met with the employer from Tuesday, January 17 to Thursday, January 19 to continue the process of renewing the collective bargaining agreement.

The parties made considerable progress on non-monetary items.  There is a recognition that the language needs to work for both sides and this requires considerable back and forth discussions.  Your committee is advocating for language that will meet the needs of the members.  We also of course realize that the busses need to run and language that prevents that from happening is not in the best interests of either side.  Although the bargaining has seen an increase in intensity, (as is normal as the process continues), we continue to see both sides working in good faith to reach a fair settlement.

Your committee has advised BC Transit that we are closely monitoring the progress at the Unifor/BCT negotiations and we intend to ensure that the wage settlements are the same at both tables.

If you have any questions about the process or anything else please feel free to contact a member of your bargaining committee.

The parties will be meeting again starting on February 7.  We currently have six dates set and we will schedule further dates if required.

Thanks again for all the support that you have given to your bargaining committee.  The committee has continued to receive positive and constructive feedback and that has helped to work towards a fair agreement. As stated before, we remain committed to bringing back the best possible agreement.

In Solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee:

Tiffany Rivers, Job Steward
Kayla de Puit, Job Steward
Glen Redden, Executive Councillor
Sal Ruffolo, Executive Councillor
Shawn Lakusta, Union Representative
