BC Transit Bargaining Update #1

October 25, 2022

To: All MoveUP members at BC Transit

Your bargaining committee met with the employer from Tuesday, October 18 to Thursday, October 20 to begin the process of renewing the collective bargaining agreement.

Both sides committed to bargaining in good faith with a mutual goal of reaching a settlement that each party would take back as a recommended settlement.

A bargaining protocol agreement was agreed to on the first day.  This agreement is a normal part of bargaining that establishes the rules that each side will adhere to during the process.  For example, it was agreed that the parties would address housekeeping and nonmonetary items before addressing monetary items.  Again, this is the standard procedure in bargaining.

The parties also exchanged proposals and provided brief explanations of the intent behind each proposal.  Much work went into preparing your union’s proposals and we are quite pleased to be presenting the proposals.  We are appreciative of the members who were able to participate in the preparation process by completing the member survey and/or expressing concerns about what needs to be done to improve the collective bargaining agreement.

Both your union and the employer have expressed an interest in ensuring that the agreement assists with recruitment and retention of members.  We look forward to continuing the process of ensuring that these items remain at the top of the priority list.

The parties will be meeting again on November 15-17 and November 29 to December 1.  Further dates will be set as required.

Thanks again for all the support that you have given to your bargaining committee.  We are committed to bringing back the best possible agreement.

In Solidarity,

Tiffany Rivers, Job Steward
Kayla de Puit, Job Steward
Glen Redden, Executive Councillor
Sal Ruffolo, Executive Councillor
