BC Hydro – 2017 United Way campaign is almost under way!

October 16, 2017

To all MoveUP members at BC Hydro:

Hi, my name is Anderson Charles and I have the pleasure of being the MoveUP representative for this year’s BC Hydro United Way campaign.

MoveUP fully supports the United Way and BC Hydro’s workplace campaign and has done so for many years. BC Hydro employees and Power Pioneers have raised more than 2.7 million dollars over the last five years. A lot of those dollars have come from unionized workers such as yourself through donations to the campaign.

This year’s campaign runs from October 11th to November 3rd with kick-off events planned at several work sites.

Last Year:

2016’s campaign was a great success. Together, we raised over $500,000 to help build our communities across the province with over 1,350 donors.  The campaign also had over 70 volunteers assisting with 40 events province wide. We could not have achieved all of this success without your help!

Education:

Currently there are more than 500,000 people province-wide who are not sure where their next meal will come from. One in four children enters school without the necessary skills for success and in some communities the ratio is one in two. More and more seniors are living in isolation which affects their health and well-being.

Our campaign dollars raised go to support programs in our communities that partner with United Way.

Through the money we raise and the awareness we bring from this campaign, it helps to build strong communities where:

  • We can improve access to early childhood development & learning programs;
  • Focus on community kitchens and community gardens to teach about healthy eating on a tight budget; and
  • Improve access to social and health-related support services so seniors can avoid isolation.

Our Goal:

Together, our goal is to raise $500,000 to continue to assist United Way in building strong and healthy communities across the province. In order to do this, we need your support! You have the ability for United Way to direct your donation to where it is needed the most and/or have it directed to another Canadian charity of your choice. As an added value this year, BC Hydro will now cover the administration cost ($12) when you choose to designate your donation to other charities.

On October 11 you will receive an e-pledge email from the United Way Campaign team containing your personal link to donate towards the campaign. I would ask that you take the time look it over and consider making a donation. Donations can be made by credit card, payroll deductions or by a gift of time.

Please visit the campaign’s Hydroweb page for any upcoming events in your area or for a list of campaign volunteers you can speak to.

Volunteers for the campaign are always appreciated and needed. If you want to assist with an event at your job site or are thinking about creating an event, send an email to employeegiving@bchydro.com or visit the Hydroweb page.

United Ways across the province are working to build healthy, caring and inclusive communities. By donating and participating, YOU are working to do the same.

Again, thank you all for what you do to contribute and for taking the time to consider participating in this year’s campaign.

In solidarity,
Anderson Charles
