A message from MoveUP’s Health and Safety committee – REVISED

May 3, 2021

To All MoveUP members

Each year the Canadian Mental Health Association promotes a Mental Health awareness week. This year it is from May 3rd to May 9th 2021, and this year’s theme is “GET REAL About how you feel, Name it, don’t numb it”. For more information and tools we have included a link to their website: https://mentalhealthweek.ca/

Mental illness indirectly affects all Canadians at some time, whether through a family member, friend or colleague. In any given year, 1 in 5 people in Canada will personally experience a mental health problem or illness. Mental illness has no boundaries and affects people of all ages, education levels, income levels and cultures. Mental health is one of the most important issues we face and with this current pandemic; we may not even understand the impact COVID-19 has had on our mental health.

A pandemic can be very stressful, stress of Covid safety plans, constant pressures, and stress of worrying about self, loved ones, our colleagues. We have been dealing with COVID-19 for over a year now, waiting for our notification regarding the vaccination, increased restrictions, those who are not abiding by these restrictions can all be extremely stressful! There are however tools and resources we can use to help us protect our mental health during tough times.
