2020 Winter School Labour Education

September 27, 2019

To: All MoveUP Job Stewards, Executive Councillors and Executive Board Members

MoveUP, through the Education Committee, is offering to job stewards, executive councillors, and executive board members, an opportunity to attend the 2020 Winter School Labour Education, held by the Canadian Labour Congress (CLC).

Week-long CLC courses commence the week of Sunday, January 12, 2020 and continue each week, concluding the week starting Sunday, February 9, 2020. Each course runs Sunday to Friday and wages, as well as room and board, are paid by MoveUP.

Your MoveUP vice-presidents will be responsible for selecting three participants each from their units, with selection being based on the following:

– a demonstrated commitment to the labour movement within MoveUP, and/or our affiliates,
– previous MoveUP or CLC labour courses taken,
– how you will use your new knowledge and skills to engage and mobilize members in your workplace,
– volunteer and activism history with MoveUP or the greater labour movement.

As spaces are limited, priority will go to those members who have not attended CLC Winter School on behalf of MoveUP in the past five years. Successful applicants will be required to prepare a short report about the course they attended to their vice-president upon completion.

While we respect the choices of our members, there may be courses that your vice-presidents feel are better suited to the needs of our membership therefore please note that changes may be made to your selections. If you have questions, please contact your vice-president as they will happily advise you through the course selection process. Course descriptions for the 2020 Winter School will be available on the CLC website here. The courses listed are subject to change so please ensure you indicate three different course choices and which week you would like to attend on the registration site.

To apply for Winter School, please complete, in full, the registration application here. Applications to attend one of the courses listed will be closed Friday, October 18, 2019 at 4:30 p.m.

Please contact the union office prior to the deadline to confirm receipt of your application. Late applications may not be considered.

Selection of applicants will be made in early November and all applicants will be advised if they were successful or not, shortly thereafter.

In Solidarity,

Rysa Kronebush, VP-Utilities
Christy Slusarenko, VP-Combined
Annette Toth, VP-ICBC
