FortisBC – Bargaining Update #8

February 27, 2024

To: All MoveUP members at FortisBC

We write to inform you that we met with the employer for negotiations on February 20, 21, and 22, and to update you about the significant progress that has been made on the non-monetary proposals of both parties.

Having already dealt with all housekeeping items such as minor changes to spelling, grammar, and terminology, during these three recent days we responded to forty-five of the employer’s proposed non-monetary changes to the collective agreement. Most of these responses were denials.

Of those employer proposals we denied, most were identified as concessionary, meaning that accepting them would result in a loss of rights or entitlements to our members. As it is MoveUP’s policy not to accept concessions, we now consider these denied proposals to be at impasse, meaning that they are no longer up for discussion.

Of the remaining non-monetary changes proposed by the employer, we have accepted about half and given counter offers on the others.

The employer has now provided responses to all our outstanding non-monetary proposals. We are considering which of these should be withdrawn and which should remain topics of discussion at the table.

Since our last update, both parties agreed to meet for bargaining on February 27 and 28, March 4 and 5, April 3, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 24. Subsequently, however, the employer withdrew their availability for March 4 and 5.

We will update you again following our next two days at the table.

In solidarity,

Your Bargaining Committee:
