BCGEU – Strike Vote – Results

August 19, 2021

To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU

On July 23rd, 2021, your bargaining committee and employer hit an impasse. Your bargaining committee heard your voices, both collectively and independently, and it was clear that you were no longer willing to settle for less than what you deserve.

After hosting 2 strike vote meetings on July 29th and August 5th, 2021, to update you on the situation and ask for your support by taking a strike vote, we held the strike vote earlier this week.

Voting was open from 8:00am August 16th and closed on August 18th at 8:00am.  We are very excited to announce the results to you today as your voice came through loud and clear with the results, which were:

102 – Yes
5 –  No
0 – Spoiled Ballots

That’s a 95% strike vote!

Your union will be advising the Labour Relations Board of the strike vote results and your bargaining committee will continue meeting to discuss next steps.

We understand that things were done a little differently this time with electronic voting, the need for you all to log in to the Member Portal and virtual meetings, but you still took the time to attend and vote, and for that, we cannot thank you enough!

Your bargaining committee will keep you updated on the next steps.

In solidarity,

Doris Stowe, Bargaining Committee Member
Meaghan Morrice, Bargaining Committee Member
Gagan Gill, Bargaining Committee Member
Amy Turton, Bargaining Committee Member
Carmen McChesney, Bargaining Committee Member

Trevor Hansen, Union Representative
Christy Slusarenko, Vice President, Combined Units
