BCGEU – Letter of Understanding #5

August 4, 2020

To: All MoveUP members at BCGEU

Your Joint Labour Management Committee is pleased to announce that the parties have agreed to an LOU regarding temporary employees who do not currently qualify for sick leave. Those temporary employees will receive forty-eight (48 hours) of sick leave for 2020 on a without prejudice basis. The parties have agreed to review at the end of 2020.

Your committee requested the employer look into this matter specifically as the offices are re-opening and staff is being strongly advised to stay home if they are not feeling well or experiencing, even minor, cold or flu symptoms. We felt that for many temporary employees it was important to receive some sick leave given COVD- 19 is still a major concern.

We thank your employer for working with the committee to adjust the sick leave entitlement for temporary employees.

In Solidarity,

Kelly Quinn, Union Representative
Amelia Peterson, Executive Councillor
Gaganpreet Gill, Executive Councillor
Maureen Guenette, Job Steward
