AMS – Our fight for a fair wage grid placement will continue in bargaining
October 2, 2026
To: All MoveUP Members at AMS
Dear MoveUP members in the Food & Beverage Component,
We want to provide an update on the disagreement we have with your employer regarding wage grid placement for Food & Beverage workers. While we’ve experienced a setback, we remain committed to carrying on the fight into bargaining.
Our position was that, during variance discussions, both your union and your employer agreed to place members on the new wage grid in Appendix ‘B’ of MOU #4 based on their total length of service with the AMS.
The employer’s position was that employees should be placed on the wage grid based on their length of service within a pay group, and that pay increases resulting from promotions should be granted in accordance with Article 15.01(d) of the Collective Agreement.
Last week, an arbitrator heard arguments from both your union and the employer and was asked to issue a binding ruling. This week, the arbitrator issued an award that endorsed the employer’s interpretation. You can read the full arbitration award here.
This is not the outcome we were seeking but let us be clear: This decision does not mean the fight for fair wage grid placement is over. It means that we must be ready to make this a top priority when we return to the bargaining table early next year.
Collective bargaining will provide us with an opportunity to reshape the wage grids, to finish the integration of the food and beverage component into the full agreement, and to fight for better wages, benefits, and working conditions for all MoveUP members at the AMS.
We will be starting bargaining preparations soon. Keep an eye out for our bargaining survey in your email inbox and ask a job steward in your work area how you can get more involved.
In Solidarity,
Kai Sharpe, Union Representative
