To: All MoveUP members at Coast Mountain Bus Company
Members of Unifor 111 and 2200 at Coast Mountain Bus Company have rejected a recommended tentative agreement for a second time. Unifor still has a strike mandate after the strike vote taken in June. Our understanding is that Unifor has or will serve CMBC notice to commence job action, beginning with a uniform ban on August 17, 2026.
Make sure MoveUP has your personal email address and phone number
We require your personal email address and your cell phone number in order to communicate with you if job action escalates and picket lines go up. We will not be able to contact you through your work email. You can check your contact information and update it using the MoveUP Member Portal. Please encourage your coworkers to do the same.
If we receive notice that Unifor plans to escalate job action, we will communicate that to you through your personal email and through text message. Sometimes it could be several days before, and sometimes it could be within a few hours. Strikes and job action are fluid and can change rapidly as events unfold. We will keep you updated with the most important information as we receive it. If you become aware of any relevant information, please let your job steward know so they can bring it to our attention.
Below are FAQs regarding picket lines.
What happens if there is a picket line at my work location?
Do not cross a picket line. Seek a MoveUP representative at the picket line for further direction. We are assembling a Job Action Committee (JAC) as well as picket captains in preparation. The JAC and picket captains will be a source of information and a first point of contact for you should picket lines go up.

If your employer tells you to work from home because of job action taking place, follow their instructions but contact Andrew immediately to let him know.
Will I get in trouble if I don’t work because of a picket line?
Your collective agreement protects you from discipline if you refuse to cross a legal picket line. If your manager instructs you to cross a picket line, tell them you need to inform MoveUP and then contact a member of the JAC, picket captains, or Andrew immediately. This applies to all MoveUP members, even if you are on a temporary assignment in a managerial position.
What if there are no Unifor members working at my site?
While Unifor members may not work at your location, there remains the possibility that rallies or demonstrations are held, particular at the CMBC Head Office location at Sapperton or at 307 Columbia. A rally or demonstration is not considered a picket line, so you will need to report to work as usual. However, we encourage you to support these demonstrations on your own time if possible.
Does MoveUP provide financial support if I can’t work because of a picket line?
MoveUP has a strong defence fund which we use to support our members who are respecting the picket lines of other union members. We will have more details on how to be eligible for picket pay if it becomes necessary.
In the meantime, please collect your last 3 pay stubs and be prepared to submit them to us when we ask. We will need them to process picket pay should Unifor escalate to a full a strike.
To expedite picket payment to you, we have set up a Direct Deposit Authorization Form where you can register your banking information with us. This will allow our team to process your information quicker and avoid any delay in issuing picket pay in the event of job action.
