ICBC – WINNING FOR YOU – Changes Coming to Ways of Working!
July 16, 2026
To: All MoveUP members at ICBC
We have heard from many of you that ICBC’s Ways of Working policy did not, in fact, work for you. Your union and bargaining committee have fought tirelessly to effect change to this policy and have succeeded on some fronts with yesterday’s announcement.
Starting on September 14, 2026, the following changes take effect for employees on a hybrid-8 work from home schedule:
- New minimum of 2 in-office days per week
- Missed in-office days no longer need to be made up
- In-person off-site workdays now count as an in-office day
- No requirement to make up statutory holidays that land on in-office days
Previously, if you were sick or on a day off, many were obligated to make up the missed in-office days. The new Ways of Working will no longer require in-office days to be made up.
The new Ways of Working also considers any approved time off. For example, if your standard in-office day is Monday, and you take Monday off, you are no longer required to make up the missed in-office day. Additionally, as we heard from many of you, attending off-site meetings on in-office days were, at times, being treated as missed in-office days and you were required to make up that day. These days now count as in-office days. The same applies to other work-related events that you may be required to attend in person on their regular in-office day.
These changes comply with the existing collective agreement terms of working from home outlined in LOU 13, as no employee on the hybrid work from home schedule will work from home more than twelve days in a four-week period. For those members working on the hybrid-10 schedule, meaning those that work one-week in office and one-week at home, there are no changes to your existing schedules. We recognize that some of our members are required to work in-office on a full-time basis and for those members, these changes to the employer’s Ways of Working policy do not change your in-office requirements.
While the new Ways of Working does not require a missed day to be made up, the expectation is still that employees, over time, are consistently in office for the minimum of two days per week.
We welcome these hard fought for changes being implemented on September 14, 2026, and will continue to fight for improvements to Ways of Working.
