MoveUP is running an election to fill three (3) Trustee positions for the Master Construction Trade Union Benefit Plan.

To ensure potential candidates have a good understanding before being nominated, a few of the responsibilities and expectations of Trustees include:

– You become a Trustee of the Trust immediately upon election, although you also sign an Acceptance of Trust when attending the first meeting.
– Under Common Law, a Trustee is expected to act prudently, evenhandedly, and solely in the interests of the Trust’s beneficiaries.
– You are expected to attend three to four Trustee meetings per year, typically held in the morning, plus one annual membership meeting usually held in the evening.
– You are expected to acquire education in the duties of a Trustee and operation of a Trust, which may require some time off work and travel.
– Responsibilities include the operation of the benefit’s trust, including knowledge of how hours-based Health and Welfare benefits operate and are funded.
– Trustees are elected for 4-year terms, with “staggered” dates. This election is for three (3) Trustees with terms expiring in July 2030. In keeping with past practice, the Trustees will discuss and allocate the terms at their first meeting after the election.

If you wish to be nominated for one of these three (3) Trustee positions, please complete the attached nomination form and have a minimum of two (2) members in good standing, from within the CIATU bargaining units, nominate you.

Please send the completed nomination forms via email to returningofficer@moveuptogether.ca or by fax to 604-299-8211 Attention: Returning Officer.

Completed nomination forms must be received in the union office by 4:30pm on Friday, July 3, 2026.

If more than 3 nominations are received, an election will be held and more information will follow.

In solidarity,

Sarah Mak
Returning Officer
