Coast Mountain Bus Company – Seniority in Transit Security – Virtual Meetings February 26
February 10, 2026
To: All MoveUP members working in Transit Security at Coast Mountain Bus Company
Your union has recently received feedback from members about the application of the seniority provisions in the collective agreement during shift sign up.
Some members have indicated they are interested in moving towards a system that would see length of continuous service within a group of shift workers be the deciding factor at shift sign up, rather than overall union seniority as is the current practice.
This would represent a significant departure from the way seniority has been applied at shift sign up. It is important we discuss this matter as a group, so everyone has the opportunity to be heard and ask questions about this significant change.
Two virtual meetings will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2026 – the Teams link will be sent to your personal email address:
- 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M.
- 6:30 P.M. to 7:30 P.M.
Following the meetings, all members in Transit Security will receive a Survey Monkey questionnaire that asks the following questions:
Are you in favour of conducting shift sign up in order of seniority, as determined by length of continuous service within a job group (changing the current practice)?
Yes / No
Are you in favour of conducting shift sign up in order of seniority, as determined by overall union seniority (staying with the current practice)?
Yes / No
Once the surveys have been completed and, if the members in Transit Security are in favour of changing the current practice, the bargaining committee will consider proposing changes for the Transit Security Department only. Please note, this change will be subject to negotiations in the upcoming round of bargaining, and a change of this sort is not guaranteed.
In solidarity,
Andrew Cheverie, Union Representative
Aaron Wong, Bargaining Committee Member (Transit Security)
Christy Slusarenko, Vice-President of Combined Units
