BC NDP Committed to Ensuring a Strong Future for Public Transit in BC
November 18, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at BC Transit, Coast Mountain Bus Company, and TransLink
This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the BC NDP Convention in Victoria. I was there representing our union and the interests of our members with several others representing MoveUP, including your vice-president, Christy Slusarenko.
Attending the BC NDP Convention allows MoveUP to bring the concerns and issues facing our members directly to the party and to ask them to take positions on the issues impacting their work.
The BC NDP Convention is attended by people from all corners of the province, representing a diversity of voices from many communities, both urban and rural.
At this convention, the topic of public transit was brought up numerous times through the resolutions that hit the floor of Convention. Convention delegates successfully passed several resolutions related to transit that will now form the BC NDP’s policy.
These include pushing the provincial government to:
- Expand free public transit to teenagers and seniors;
- Roll back privatization within BC Transit and TransLink;
- Implement an intercommunity bus public system;
- Implement a provincially supported low-income transit fare pass program; and
- End the contracting out of HandyDART services.
Our union is hopeful that these policy positions will, in the long run, mean more well-paid, stable jobs for our members in public transit.
I am excited about the future of public transit in our province and for our members who work in that sector.
In solidarity,
Annette Toth
President
