Meeting Notice
CUPE BC and Locals – Bargaining Update #1 and Membership Meeting
June 30, 2025
To: All MoveUP members at CUPE BC and Locals
Your bargaining committee has been hard at work preparing for negotiations and getting your employer to the table. We want to share an update with you on what has happened since our last bulletin and where we’re headed next.
Proposal development and committee updates
Your bargaining committee met over 3 days to review the results of your bargaining surveys and develop proposals that reflect the priorities you identified. A significant portion of these proposals focus on direct monetary improvements to your wages and working conditions. If you asked for it, it’s likely in our proposal package.
During this period, CUPE BC underwent a leadership transition with the departure of Trevor Davies, who previously served as the employer’s bargaining chair. Interim elections were held, followed by Tony Rebelo’s full term appointment at the last CUPE BC convention. We appreciate your patience during this transitionary period.
Your bargaining committee has also seen some changes. We’ve increased our committee representation from two to three members to ensure committee succession and a carry-over of knowledge and experience to the next round’s table.
Nadine Ford, a staple of our committee over multiple rounds has now retired. We thank her for her several years of service representing this membership and advocating at the table on issues especially important to our members working in CUPE locals. Erica Rogers from CUPE 1004 and Chika Buston from CUPE BC were appointed to the vacant seats in order to maximize our member representation at the table.
As well, Union Representative Alina Teymory has been assigned as co-chair to this round of bargaining with co-chair Nathan Beausoleil.
Bargaining dates and progress
We have been consistently pushing the employer to set dates to begin bargaining during the leadership transition period beginning in December 2024. In late April, We were able to finally secure dates throughout May, June and July to begin the bargaining process after the leadership election at the last CUPE BC convention.
We met with the employer to exchange proposals and review housekeeping items on May 14 and June 20, 2025. We expect to move into monetary discussions at our next scheduled bargaining session on July 8, 2025.
Membership meeting – July 7
To keep you informed and engaged in the process, we’re inviting all members to a virtual membership meeting the evening before we return to the bargaining table to discuss bargaining as well as the recently tabled public sector mandate monetary offer which we anticipate will again be brought forward by the employer at the table during monetary discussions.
